Osmania is a non-profit university which is funded and managed by the government. Admissions into the Bachelor of Engineering, Masters and Doctoral programs in Main Campus is on a merit basis, evaluated by national entrance examinations (EAMCET, GATE, BCFSBTGMES-N&D, APLAWCET, O.U. PhD Entrance Exam etc.) for each of the courses offered. The research activities are funded by agencies like University Grants Commission, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Department of Biotechnology, Defence Research and Development Organisation, etc., which are autonomous agencies of the government

Recent advances in Plant Sciences have provided strong basis for initiating comprehensive research on various branches of Biotechnology for human welfare. Biotechnology has greater impact and influence in the fields of health, food/agriculture, industry and environmental protection. Techniques have been developed to find and produce rare valuable metabolites, to change hereditary traits of plants and animals, to diagnose diseases, to produce useful industrial chemicals and to clean up and restore the environment. In recent times, Indian scientists have made significant progress in various aspects of Biotechnology. In this context, a National Symposium
About the department
The Faculty members undertake research in Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology; Plant Physiology; Taxonomy, Anatomy, Embryology and Medicinal plant research; Applied Mycology and molecular Plant Pathology; Algology, Hydrobiology and Ecology. The Department successfully implemented DSTFIST, UGC-COSIST and UGC-DSA-III and has been granted FIST-II by DST. The Department is collaborating in DBT-ISLARE, DST-PURSE,UGC-CPEPA and UGC-UPE programmes of the University. The Faculty has received several awards and Research grants from funding agencies like UGC, DST, CSIR, DOEn, DBT, DNES, ICAR, ICMR, MoENF, NMPB, and APNL. The Department has so far awarded 410 Ph.Ds, published 2,500 research papers and 50 books. The Department has organized 4 International and 20 National conferences and 10 workshops.
Objectives of the symposium
- To deliberate on recent achievements in different branches of Biotechnology and their impact on Agriculture, Healthcare, Industry and the Environment.
- To provide a congenial academic platform for exchange of ideas on recenttrends in biotechnology among Academicians, Scientists & Researchers.
- To provide an avenue for the Research Scholars to present their research work and interact with experts from different areas of Biotechnology
The Symposium comprises invited lectures and a few oral and Poster presentations in various fields of Biotechnology:
- Medicinal Plant Biotechnology, Biodiversity & Aspects of Applied Physiology & Molecular Genetics.
- Biotechnology and Healthcare
- Microbial Biotechnology
- Environmental Biotechnology
With the idea of encouraging the competitive spirit among Research scholars, Merit Certificates will be awarded to the first author of the Best Paper & Poster Presentations.
Call for abstracts:
Participants interested in presenting papers/posters are requested to send their abstracts in MS-Word 2003/2007 with double spacing not exceeding 300 words. The title of the paper,name(s) of author(s) and their address should be properly mentioned. Preference forOral/Poster must be indicated.The abstract should be submitted as a Hard copy and also Soft copy by email to email@example.com on or before November 20th 2013. The abstract must be accompanied with the registration fee. Abstracts will be published in the Souvenir to be released at the inaugural session.
Travel & accommodation:
Hyderabad is a Metropolitan City well connected by air, rail and road. Participants are requested to make their own arrangements for travel and accommodation. A number of budget-hotels are located at short distance from the venue. Delegates/Participants are requested to make their travel arrangements on their own
